Meet the Candidates

Lester Jackson (D): Senate District 2 - WIN

Lester Jackson has represented House District 161 since 1999.  Senate District 2 includes Savannah as well as North Chatham County. In addition to serving as a representative, Representative Jackson is a family dentist. While serving in the House, Dr. Jackson championed efforts to protect coastal marshlands and believes that having a clean environment is critical to healthy well-being.

Jeff Chapman (R): Senate District 3 - WIN

Jeff Chapman was elected as the Senator for Senate District 3 in 2004. Senate District 3 includes Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, and McIntosh Counties. Senator Chapman also works as a businessman. Senator Chapman has led efforts to conserve Jekyll Island State Park and protect private property rights under eminent domain reform.

Freddie Powell Sims (D): Senate District 12 - WIN

Freddie Powell Sims has served since 2005 as the representative for House District 151, which includes part of Dougherty County. She is now a candidate for Senate District 12 which includes the following counties: Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Quitman, Randolph, Terrell, and part of Mitchell. Representative Powell Sims is a Doctor of Educational Leadership and a former middle school principal. While serving in the House, Representative Powell Sims consistently voted to protect water rights for those who live downstream.

Nan Orrock (D): Senate District 36 - WIN

Nan Orrock served in the House from 1987 until 2006 when she was elected as the senator for District 36. Senate District 36 includes part of Fulton County. In addition to her legislative service, Senator Orrock is the president of Women Legislators Lobby (WiLL). For more than two decades, Senator Orrock has supported solutions to relieve traffic congestion while cleaning up the water we drink and the air we breathe.

Bill Cowsert (R): Senate District 46 - WIN, will face challenger in November

Bill Cowsert has been the senator for District 46 since 2006. This district includes Oconee County as well as parts of Clarke and Walton Counties. Senator Cowsert is an attorney with Cowert & Avery. In his freshman term, Senator Cowsert displayed a thoughtfulness on water and clean energy policies.

Rick Austin (R): House District 10 - WIN

Rick Austin is seeking election to House District 10, which includes Habersham County and part of White County. Dr. Austin is a Habersham County Commissioner and Biology professor at Piedmont College. With his science background and experience in local politics, Dr. Austin has demonstrated his interest in solving Georgia's water challenges while supporting transportation and clean energy solutions.

 

 

Sheila Jones (D): House District 44 - WIN, will face challenger in November

Sheila Jones has represented House District 44 for two terms, since 2005. District 44 includes part of both Cobb and Fulton Counties. Representative Jones works for Lockheed Martin Company. Represenative Jones has championed stronger rewards for Georgians who conserve water.

Margaret Kaiser (D): House District 59 - WIN

Margaret Kaiser was elected to represent House District 59 in 2007 and has served one term. House District 59 includes part of Fulton County. Representative Kaiser works as the President of Kaiser Dough and Pizza Concepts. Representative Kaiser supports solutions to relieve traffic congestion and efforts to improve recycling around the state.

Virgil Fludd (D): House District 66 - WIN

Virgil Fludd has been the Representative for House District 66 since 2003.  This district includes part of both Fayette and Fulton Counties.  Representative Fludd is the President of the Carvir Group, a consulting firm. Represenative Fludd introduced legislation to improve state inspection of waste facilities and wants further protections to ensure a clean, abundant supply of water and reduce the impact of transportation on clean, healthy air.

Bobby Reese (R): House District 98 - WIN

Bobby Reese began representing House District 98 in 2005. House District 98 represents part of Gwinnett County. Representative Reese is self-employed as a real estate broker for Bobby Reese Realty, Inc. Representative Reese is leading efforts to conserve water through the way we use and manage our land. He has also been a champion on issues of hunting and wildlife.

Mark Hatfield (R): House District 177 - WIN, will face challenger in November

Mark Hatfield has represented House District 177 since 2005. This district includes Charlton and Ware Counties. In addition to serving as a representative, Representative Hatfield is an attorney for Hatfield & Hatfield, P.C. Representative Hatfield has worked tirelessly to speak up for private property rights of residents threatened by landfills and has championed the water rights of those living downstream.

Pam Davidson (R): Public Service Commission     District 4 - LOSS

As a renewable energy consultant, Pam Davidson has worked alongside the General Assembly, Public Service Commission, and the Department of Natural Resources. Public Service Commission District 4 covers the Northern portion of Georgia. Ms. Davidson has been a leading voice for clean, homegrown sources of electricity generation and energy efficiency as an advocate at the Georgia General Assembly.

Jim Powell (D): Public Service Commission
District 4 - WIN, will face challenger in November

Jim Powell works as an energy consultant. Public Service Commission District 4 covers the Northern portion of Georgia. With decades of experience at the U.S. Department of Energy, Mr. Powell is ready to take action to reduce energy prices through energy efficiency and promoting a more diverse mix of sources of energy.
