Dear Summer,

Welcome to the Georgia Conservation Voters Legislative Newsletter. This letter will be circulated frequently during the 2006 legislative session in efforts to keep you abreast on issues of particular interest to you on environmental legislation.

 Governor is 3 for 5
Perdue backs 3 of 5 legislative priorities

Gov Perdue The legislative session seems to be off to a good start for us here at Georgia Conservation Voters. Out of our top five legislative priorities, the Governor is backing three of them. In his State of the State Address, Governor Sonny Perdue announced the Land Conservation Tax Credit, a state income tax credit given to landowners who donate property to the state or local government, land trust or other charity, or donate the development rights and continue to own the land.

Additionally, in his newly-drafted budget for FY 2007, Governor Perdue announced his intentions to totally fund the Hazardous Waste and Solid Waste Trust Funds. The Erosion and Sedimentation Funds, however, will not be fully funded but will be increased to $2.5 million.

The only agenda item that remains untouched is the proposed renewable energy tax credit.
