GRAND SLAM!!!
Georgia Conservation Voters Victorious in Primary
In primary contests across the state, twelve of
fourteen races targeted by GCV boasted a win. One
additional race, House District 58 will see a
runoff. GCV had endorsed 10 candidates in the
House, three candidates in the Senate, and one in
the PSC race. In all, five were Republicans and
nine were Democrats. These endorsements mean GCV
provided significant field, media, and/or financial
support.
This announcement follows as a result of tireless
campaigning on the part of the GCV Action Fund, a
political action committee dedicated to election
conservation-minded officials to lead Georgia.
According to Executive Director Jason Rooks, these
victories indicate that conservation is on the minds
of voters, even in Republican primaries. ?Georgia
Conservation Voters is proud of the unique role we
are able play in elections,? says Executive Director
Jason Rooks, ?and we are proud to help our
Republican and Democrat environmental champions to
re-election and support candidates who will make
conservation a primary issue during their service to
the citizens of Georgia.?
Of the twelve victors endorsed by GCV, eight have no
opposition in the General elections and have
therefore been elected to the General Assembly;
including Republican Bobby Reese who defeated tough
opponent and former Gwinnett County Commissioner for
12 years, Wayne Hill in the race for House District 98.
GCVAF welcomes the following endorsed candidates to
the State Legislature: Representative Kathy Ashe,
Representative Karla Drenner, Stacey Abrams, Senator
Gloria Butler, Representative Sheila Jones, Senator
Emanuel Jones, Representative Michele Henson, and
Representative Bobby Reese. GCV will lend its
support to Allen Thornell as he faces a runoff
against Robbin Shipp in House District 58. The four
candidates who were victorious in the primary and
face opposition in the
General are Representatives Matt Dollar, Robert
Mumford, Mark Hatfield, and Representative Nan
Orrock running for Senator of District 36.
GCV evaluates candidates based on questionnaires,
interviews, voting records and experience. It makes
campaign contributions and works to help elect
endorsed candidates who are committed to the
protection of Georgia?s natural heritage. The
bipartisan, non-profit is governed by a statewide
volunteer board. GCV will announce additional
endorsements, including statewide races later this
summer.
